原文如此:“Architectural quality cuts across ideological, temporal and territorial frontiers. The primary works of Modern architecture throw down a challenge to a present obsessed with transient imagery, the trash of consumerism, fake theorizing and formalistic tricks generated on the computer. They remind us that architecture has more serious aims to pursue.”
原文:“Does this mean that one advocates a return to some mythical period of supposed purity? Of course not: fundamentalism of every kind are a flight from reality and end up with dead dogma and tired forms. A tradition is kept alive by a critical assessment of what has gone before. Much of what is inherited is simply assumed, but prototypes may also be re-studied for lessons which they may hold for the ever-changing realities of the present. Exemplary buildings are full of hidden implications and their relevance may suddenly emerge after a lapse of decades. They may even propose solutions to generic problems and be picked up again by later architects struggling with analogous questions, whether these have to do with space, social purpose, geometry, material, building type, structure, the city or the landscape.”
